navigation & data sevices
The growing complexity of our system capabilities has created a significant increase in the requirement for navigation data information and associated maintenance of these data. Accurate navigation data such as worldwide restrictions (restricted areas and airway restrictions) and airport capability are needed to allow the system’s optimization algorithms to calculate the most efficient and ATC compliant routes.
To help our customers with these operations we now offer a full set of quality-assured data services designed to provide a high level of data management to our customers as part of our data subscription services.
Our navigation data services are headed up by Mr. . Wolfgang brings many years airline operational experience to the navigation data services operations and is leading our team of navigation specialists in providing services to our customers
In addition to the basic navigation data maintenance, we offer a series of value-added items that are either included as part of the basic service or available as optional service.
We offer 3 levels of service: Basic, Premium or Customized.
Basic service includes:
- Restriction handling (airways and areas)
- Common routes
- Compulsory routes
Premium service includes:
- All elements covered in the Basic Service
- Airport capability and filtering controls
- Airspace capability and filtering controls
Customized service includes:
- All elements covered in the Premium
- Company route maintenance
Restricted Areas
Extracted from our navigation data providers we have created a database of worldwide permanent published restricted areas. This data is updated automatically at each AIRAC cycle. Our data services ensure that specific areas are correctly activated or deactivated as NOTAM are issued. Ad-hoc restricted areas (such as military areas) are directly built and activated as published by NOTAM. NOTAM published restricted areas with a validity of 1 hour are not part of the service, these NOTAM however are part of the NOTAM data provide to pilots and dispatchers.
Airway Restrictions
The full European RAD restrictions are automatically ingested and used by flywize however the original messages sometimes contain mistakes or anomalies. Our data service provides a quality check for correct application of the restrictions ensure that the correct information is loaded into our customers databases. Given the high quantity of data and due to the complexity of some restrictions, we run a validation program that checks the validity of each restriction and then send any data corrections immediately to our customers. Worldwide airway restrictions coverage is available.
Conditional routes (CDR) as well as daily CRAM routes are included from the ECAC areas.
Airways restrictions published by NOTAMs are also continuously managed and applied as part of the data services.
Airport Capability and Airspace Requirement filtering
Airport capability
Airport capability forms the basis of airport filtering for different applicability for usage. Specific datasets are built for each customer that details the applicable parameters at each customer airport.
Parameters include:
- Airport usage – dest, altn (preferred or not), enroute altn, ETOPS altn, emergency airport only
- Wxx minima – specific to approach/runway, dest or altn
- Availability by aircraft type
- Fuel availability
SIDs/STARs – only SIDs/STARs and approaches tailored for company’s aircraft type are added to the data.
Airport filtering
Airport usage with flywize is modified as a function of weather conditions (example: airports preselected as an available ETOPS alternate are deselected if Wx forecast are below ETOPS alternate minima). The same principle is applied for NOTAMs restrictions (airport closed for example disables the airport usage completely). If during the operation a dispatcher manually selects an unsuitable airport an alert is generated a warning the dispatcher about the unsuitability.
Fuel availability as affected by NOTAM or availability deselects the airport from automatic selection and again creates an alert if the airport is manually selected.
SIDs/STARs and associated approaches are monitored and availability changed based on NOTAMs. For example if an ILS approach is NOTAM’s as unserviceable all combination of the STARs using this ILS approach are disables from the selection algorithms. In such an event the system will then use the next best published approach (VOR/DME for example).
Airspace Requirements
Some airspace have specific usage requirements, like RVSM or MNPS capability. Aircraft capability that drives the Item 10 of the ICAO flightplan identifies these capabilities in this context. These requirements are attributes of FIR/UIR data and are checked against aircraft capabilities and MEL-imposed temporary limitations. Our data services monitor these restrictions and ensure that customer airspace requirements are updates as required.
Company Routes
Company routes are operator specific data that have traditionally been maintained by the operator’s navigation office. Our data services ensure that after each AIRAC nav data update that a full check of all company routes is performed. Any routing errors are identified and corrected and then updated on the customers data bases. Additionally a report listing all corrected routing is then sent to the customer. The service also includes captures of new customer added routes and incorporation of these into the Company Routes data base.
Compulsory route
Covers all compulsory route data including the the European NERS. NERS maintained as part of the service with specific NERS as associated to a specific north atlantic track are linked to the tracks correctly. RAD restrictions are also maintained and any necessary RAD links are updated as necessary. Specific ‘extended STAR’ arrival route (as at many large US airport) are also included in this category of route maintenance.
Common Routes
Common routes include all the published preferred routes such as FAA routes and UK SRDs. Our data services builds and maintains all Common routes and subroutes for all subscribing customers and shares these routes across all our customer databases creating a global capability of ever expanding route building blocks.
