DUBAI, UAE — DAE Services, the aviation technology division of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, has acquired flugwerkzeuge aviation software (f:wz), a privately-held Austrian software firm that develops and distributes cost-optimizing flight planning solutions for airlines.

“With this acquisition Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE Holding) and its business unit, DAE Services, takes another significant step toward fulfilling Dubai’s vision of building a ‘centre of gravity’ for aviation and aviation technology services in the region,” said Dr. Omar bin Suleiman, Managing Director, DAE Group.

“Airlines are suffering from record high fuel prices and are looking for better technologies that will ease the burden. With its sophisticated flight planning software, f:wz offers optimization solutions that deliver immediate and substantial savings,” stated Kamilia Sofia, Acting CEO of DAE Services.

“With DAE, we will have a stronger global footprint and the ability to pursue a full range of collaboration and integration scenarios with other DAE businesses, industry partners and customers,” said Captain Raimund Zopp, CEO, f:wz aviation software. “DAE’s resources and reach will allow us to accelerate our growth and serve as catalyst for new ideas and opportunities.”

f:wz’s primary offerings include mfs:2 – its advanced flight planning solution – and the Ops Publishing System (OPUSTM) for the management of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and company-specific mission information.

The company has a global airline customer base which includes United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Austrian Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. Recently, f:wz was chosen to supply Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines with its advanced flight planning technology.

United Airlines, which is currently implementing the f:wz system, has stated that this technology represents a lynchpin of its strategy to modernize its infrastructure and streamline its costs.  United has successfully realized significant savings using the system during the development and integration period.
