flugwerkzeuge´s (also known as f:wz) core product, flywize, is a flight planning system that allows large and small airline operators to achieve measurable cost optimization benefits.
The system allows airlines to specifically select the features they need most, without having to buy redundant capabilities.
A key feature of flywize is the integrated Ops Publishing System. This module generates a customized report for the pilot including official NOTAMS, company information, and aircraft technical status. The briefings are tailored to the actual flight plan situation, therefore prioritizing the information important to the pilot and eliminating the extraneous and superfluous portions. This feature has been extremely well-received by pilots, as they appreciate the lighter briefing and know the information contained is exactly what is required to ensure a safe flight. In fact, research has told us that pilots often skim the contents of a briefing since
- the briefing is often overwhelmingly long and tedious,
- they believe they’ve seen most of the information before therefore they don’t thoroughly read it, and
- the information isn’t chronologically listed, therefore, it’s hard to find the information that is new.
flywize has taken all of this into consideration and provided a solution answering each of the pilots’ concerns. Finally, the integrated briefing is available locally or via telex/ACARS remote requests, so it is available where and when needed.
As mentioned previously, total cost optimization is a major benefit of our flywize system. It is the only solution on the market that takes into consideration all relevant cost factors to determine a flight path optimized on 4-dimensions: 3 dimensional space (lateral route, altitude profile) and cruising speed. Changes to any factor impacts the others, therefore, flywize recalculates all concurrently. Instead of merely accelerating a flight in order to meet landing time, flywize compares the extra fuel cost against possible route changes, overflight charge implications, delay factors, etc. This provides the airline a thorough view of the impact of flight delays, costs, and operations.

Because our solutions have been designed by pilots for pilots and dispatchers, our systems are easy, intuitive and relevant. Our architecture is based upon the latest standards and protocols, therefore, it is light yet robust. In fact, it can be configured as a remote access system or as a client/server solution on stand-alone PC hardware (even a laptop!).
flywize components have been successfully integrated with Ops systems such as LBS’s NetLine and ICL’s SkyTech, LH System’s Amadeus and Caesar, Atraxis MESCO, RM’s Crew Control System, Austrocontrol’s weather database, SITA, AFTN, AGL telex connectors, MS Exchange, and the Internet.
